We all remember our children’s first steps, and our Nursery at Sherborne Prep gives your child the perfect first step on their school journey.
Joining our nurturing, self-contained Nursery the term they turn three, children enjoy individual care and attention in our safe and secure bespoke Nursery classroom. It is here they will create close first friendships and form long-lasting relationships with our staff. Outdoor learning happens daily, with a fantastic separate and secure play space just for our youngest learners. Overlooking our orchard, our Nursery children quickly adapt to their first school setting and can see the progression they will make as they join Reception in the Pre-Prep building.
Weekly Forest School visits mean that all children grow in understanding their role within nature and their responsibility for it. Our refurbished on-site pond provides a superb dipping site in which to catch tadpoles! Nursery children also benefit from specialist teaching from the Prep staff in areas such as Sport, Music and French and our trained nursery practitioners, led by a qualified EYFS teacher, deliver a varied and challenging curriculum that will prepare your child for entry into our Reception.

For many parents the transition from Nursery to Reception can be a daunting prospect. But at Sherborne Prep it really is seamless. Moving into our Reception feels just like starting a new school year, rather than a whole new school. Nursery children attend special assemblies each term, play regularly with their friends in Reception and Year 1 and 2, enjoy visits from our older ‘Play Leaders’ in Year 7 and take their lunch in our main Prep school hall along with the rest of the school.
Our Nursery really is the perfect setting to make a positive start at Sherborne Prep School; children build their learning skills through child led learning in a caring environment in which they feel secure, confident, and inspired to learn about themselves and the world around them.

Activities
We make full use of our beautiful grounds to provide adventure, stimulation and entertainment. Our children enjoy the familiar environment of the Nursery, but we regularly venture into the wider School site and beyond, visiting historic locations in Sherborne to enhance learning.
We provide Maths and Phonics activities every day and children are encouraged to “mark make” as a way of developing writing and drawing skills. This supports self-expression, growing their confidence and sowing seeds for their future development.
We draw on subject specialists from the School community to deliver a wide range of activities in areas such as:
