Music plays a key role in school life at Sherborne Prep School, with over 110 individual music lessons being taken every week, it is a hive of activity. We cater for all instrumentalists in various chamber groups: Digby Brass Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra, String Ensemble, Woodwind Ensemble,  Choirs and Maestro's. Pupils have a variety of concert opportunities in the music department, whether it be a relaxed Friday afternoon solo recital or a more formal evening concert in Gransden Hall or The Powell Theatre.

We join Sherborne Girls and Sherborne School in a Joint Schools' Orchestra project, with weekly rehearsals. It is a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to sit and play amongst those in the senior schools, sometimes even old preppers!

We boast a strong choral tradition at Sherborne Prep, providing the majority of the trebles for the Sherborne Abbey Choir - both in the Boys' Choir and the newly formed Girls' Choir. We work closely with the Director of Music at Sherborne Abbey Choir to make sure our choristers are able to enjoy the breadth of life at Sherborne Prep and to fulfil their Abbey Choir commitments. Outside of the Abbey Choir, we have two senior choirs both of which are auditioned and perform a variety of repertoire both in services and concerts. Alongside our senior choirs, we run a Junior Choir for all in Year 3 - 5 and a Pre-Prep Choir.
