Sport plays an important role in life at Sherborne Prep for all our pupils. The spirit and manner in which pupils at Sherborne Prep approach sport is central to all that is great about our school. Pupil development and a balanced all-round education is at the forefront of our approach to sport. It is obvious that sport is special to many pupils at Sherborne Prep! It regularly brings out the best in them and builds on the pride and spirit that undoubtedly exists within the school.

We believe firmly in a pupil centred approach and work hard to provide a framework and environment where each pupil and member of staff can strive to be the best that they can be whilst providing breadth and opportunity for all.

We want to ensure that:

Every Sherborne Prep pupil participates in regular physical activity, can represent the school at sport, and leaves the school equipped to lead a healthy, active life.

We play regular block fixtures against all the major independent prep schools in the South West and beyond and compete in many regional and national competitions. Sherborne Prep is set in 12 acres of grounds, with extensive playing fields, an Astroturf, netball, and tennis courts. We also enjoy the significant benefits of strong links with both Sherborne School and Sherborne Girls.

Sherborne Prep is a school where all pupils are given the opportunity to participate, enjoy, succeed, and excel in physical activity and sport. Where effort is encouraged and rewarded, talent is fostered and developed; teamwork, loyalty, endeavour, and personal responsibility are valued. Traditions are respected with team sports at the heart of the games programme. Individual pursuits are promoted as further opportunities to enjoy physical activity, compete, achieve excellence, and encourage lifelong participation. As part of this process, we look to rotate Captaincy in all teams below the 1st team and to ensure that each pupil involved in a match day squad will play a minimum of half of the allocated game time.

We use the newly refurbished Sherborne Sports Centre for swimming, climbing and bouldering and a variety of other sports including indoor hockey and cricket.
