New head, Annie Gent seems to have gone down well with parents, who describe her as 'hands-on', 'kind' and 'immensely approachable'. Says one mother: 'We get the impression that the leadership structure is pretty flat with, with a focus on teamwork.' And this encouragement of initiative is threaded throughout the non-selective school, which proudly focuses on developing the whole child, imparting life lessons both within and beyond the classroom.
A Life Skills programme has been added to the curriculum, as have Mental Toughness lessons; and children continue with these studies in their spare time, when they might be found climbing trees or playing four square (a sport that is popular in Dorset apparently). Their elders even get in on the action, as anyone who attended the school's 'simulacrum coronation' - complete with parental jousting - can testify.
