There's something rather magical about seeing the world through the eyes of a child.
Every Saturday morning, about twelve children from Years 6, 7 and 8 get the opportunity to join Mr Adams in Photography Club. He gives them either a theme, technical aspect or subject matter on which to focus their camera skills and then, using their digital devices or cameras, they turn their attention to the ‘focus’ of the day’s session.
So far the children have been considering the ‘rule of thirds’, ‘close-up photography’, ‘light and dark’, ‘using water’ and ‘the Sherborne Market’!
Mr Adams reflects on his time with the children and their development throughout the term;
I find it very interesting that the children come to me as relative beginners but with an already quite advanced concept of photographic composition. I think that's a reflection of children today being exposed to many of the elements of picture composition in the media, be it online or through film and television.
Also, children now also have access like never before to perfectly good quality cameras on their devices - so it's even easier to point and shoot and have a great photo to instantly show for it. It makes it easy for me as a teacher to engage the children when they can get such instant feedback and satisfying results.
