Poetry By Heart - The Wonder of Words

English activity

It was a delight to see pupils, and staff, reciting poetry in Assembly.

Mrs Thomas, Head of English, had organised a wonderful line-up of poetry that allowed every year group, and a select number of individual children, to stand up and perform a poem that meant something to them.

There was opportunity to give immediate feedback to those who had worked so hard to learn whole poems by heart and this was full of praise and adoration.

At the end, Mr Pyman, Mr Poulain, Mrs Thomas, Mrs Gent and Mrs Harris performed The Quangle Wangle's Hat, by Edward Lear, which was an utter delight and loved by all the children, staff and parents!

On the top of the Crumpetty Tree
The Quangle Wangle sat,
But his face you could not see,
On account of his Beaver Hat.
For his Hat was a hundred and two feet wide,
With ribbons and bibbons on every side
And bells, and buttons, and loops, and lace,
So that nobody ever could see the face
Of the Quangle Wangle Quee.
