Charity co-curricular

On Saturday, 6 January, the children of Sherborne Prep were ‘challenged for charity’.

Split into groups, the children were thrown into activities including swimming a colossal twenty-one miles ‘across the English Channel’, participating in a non-stop danceathon, climbing 3000ft on Sherborne Sports Centre’s climbing wall in a continuous relay. The children ran a massive two hundred and twelve miles, continuously played ping pong, and read the entirety of Charlie & The Chocolate Factory! There was something for everyone!

Throughout the morning, the school’s spirit and community shone through the whole school – there were cheers from the dining hall for the much-anticipated result of the ping pong game, rousing support from the crowds of parents and families involved in the ‘run to Paris’ and ‘swim across the Channel’, and much-needed motivational calls of support from the bottom of the climbing wall!

Sherborne Prep has chosen to support the Sherborne Community Kitchen and the Crisis Homeless Charity with its event, with the final donations being gathered this week.

Clearly staff and children enjoyed the morning in equal measure. Our Deputy Head (Co-curricular), Alastair Poulain, said, "What a morning that was! Swimming the channel early morning, climbing Ben Nevis at 9, running to Paris before lunch, all while reading, dancing to (seemingly endless) Abba with a bit of Taylor, storming through a Ping-Pong-A-Thon and smiling relentlessly, the Prep have taken their charitable endeavours with their characteristic bubbly charm. Encore!?”

We are immensely proud of our children, it truly was a morning to remember, motivated by wanting to give back to those in need.
