Year 8 travelled to Bath this week to experience a range of Literary greats!
They visited Mary Shelley's House of Frankenstein with all its gruesome, dark and mysterious artefacts, including - essentially - an assortment of body parts! Imagine the delight in experiencing an 8ft monster, eerie attic rooms and dark foreboding basements...!
The children were not disappointed and explored exhibits that explained the author's life, her works and how her most famous novel turned into a Hollywood blockbuster; all fascinating stuff, but if you ever get a chance to visit, don't go down in the basement!!!
They dipped into the social heart of Bath at The Pump Room which boasts amongst its previous patrons, Jane Austen and Charles Dickens. The children imagined polite society in the time of Jane Austen as they had mid-morning tea/cake and revelled in the ambience of the beautiful Neoclassical rooms!
Bath Abbey was as stunning as ever and the children enjoyed their tour of its wonderful interior.
As part of their cross-curricular learning for English and History, they enjoyed a production of Animal Farm by George Orwell, at the Theatre Royal Bath. The children were rivetted to their seats in absolute awe of the puppetry and mastery of the production and cast - all children agreed that Animal Farm was the absolute highlight of the day!!
