The 5th of December was one of those Sherborne Prep days. Dreamt up by Miss Gates and Mr Roberts yet involving every member of staff in a whirligig of cross-curricular education.
The very exciting ‘Pole to Pole’ event saw the whole school take part in a series of activities focusing on Polar Exploration and Environmental Change.
Struggling through a blizzard in the sports hall to enter into Scott's fur carpeted bell tent, the Endurance emblazoned a wall behind; lugging 230kg of dead weight in packs around the campus, using ingenuity and teamwork to dodge polar bears and crevasses; environmental calculations using experiments in the science lab; last diary entries written full of suppressed Edwardian emotion; stunning postcards being drawn in the Art room: there was a little bit of everything today, all suitably polar.
An introductory talk from the record-holding and wonderfully witty Pen Hadow, Arctic Explorer and Ocean Conservationist, set the tone beautifully - and it just flew on from there.
And the children? Studious, inquisitive and keen to involve themselves in everything: a credit to the school.
With thanks to the wonderful photographer, also DofE and Outdoor Ed Assistant at Sherborne School, Mr Stuart for his time, do take a look at some of our shared moments.
